Our Mission

At Project SAFE, we are dedicated to ensuring that our community’s future is in good hands. We understand that the youth is our future, and that the future is made by their education. We value the opportunity to teach our students – not only to avoid addictive behaviors, but more so to build leaders who will rise above the myriad of challenges in life.

Project SAFE is a life skills, curriculum-based program that is taught in the classroom, once a week to boys and girls, grades 8 5th-12th. Our teachers are trained professionals who are not only passionate about the topics of life skills, development, and risk prevention, but also truly care about their students and their emotional and psychological growth. Project SAFE and our teachers provide a “SAFE” space for students to talk and to address issues that might be difficult to discuss elsewhere.

When it comes to addiction, one of the most important questions that arises is, “How can we prevent addictive behaviors?”  Project SAFE is The SAFE Foundation’s response to this question of prevention. At Project SAFE, our goal is to arm students with the tools and decision making skills to help them navigate the inevitable challenges of adolescence and adulthood.

Our curriculum consists of lesson plans spanning all topics under the umbrella of “risk education” including gambling, drug and alcohol awareness, and vaping. Equally important, our curriculum covers those topics considered “life skills” which are often not taught in regular classrooms nor at home.

Among these valuable skills are emotional recognition, resilience, the value of respect, communication in relationships, decision making, peer pressure, internet safety, and bullying. Our curriculum is continuously developing and growing based on current research in positive psychology and adolescent brain development, as well as the most recent issues and concerns of today’s youth.

In addition to weekly curriculum based classes, Project SAFE organizes special programs for our students. Some highlights of the 2019-2020 school year are a visit from New York State Senators Andrew Gounardes and Peter Harckham, a mental health and wellness day with speakers from our community, and various speakers for gambling, healthy body image, gambling and mindfulness.
